When the Original Supplier No Longer Trades

A lot of the aluminium louvre systems on Sydney balconies, facades and courtyards were supplied by companies that no longer exist. When something seizes or breaks, the owner rings around and gets the same answer everywhere: "not ours, can't help."

We can. Our background includes manufacturing and project-managing these systems at a leading Sydney louvre manufacturer — so we know how they're put together, what the common failure points are, and which current hardware can be adapted where original parts are gone.

We repair louvre systems regardless of who supplied them: sliding privacy panels, hinged louvre shutters, fixed screens and adjustable-blade systems, in horizontal and vertical configurations.

Common faults

Common Aluminium Louvre & Privacy Shutter Faults We Fix

Send us a description and a photo of the panel or blades and we'll help narrow down the fault before we attend.

Blades not opening or closing evenly

Some blades move, others don't, or the whole bank sits skewed. Usually a linkage fault — a broken link bar, worn control rod or individual seized pivots.

Seized, stiff or corroded pivots

Pins, hinges and side channels corrode and bind — especially near the coast. We free, service or replace the pivot hardware before it snaps a blade or handle.

Broken link bars, rods, handles or gearboxes

The operating hardware wears out long before the blades do. We repair or replace link bars, control rods, operator handles and gearboxes — with adapted hardware where originals are discontinued.

Dropped or misaligned panels

Sliding or hinged panels that have sagged, jumped their rollers or started rubbing the frame. Usually worn hinges, failed rollers or fixings — replaceable without replacing the panel.

Bent blades, damaged frames, storm impact

Individual blades can often be replaced or straightened rather than writing off the panel. For insurance matters, we document the damage in a written assessment.

Locks and latches not securing

Privacy panels that no longer latch, drop bolts that miss their keepers, corroded locks. We repair or replace the hardware and re-align the panel so it secures properly.

Diagnosing a motorised aluminium louvre drive system — Shutters of Sydney
Motorised systems

Motorised Louvres — Diagnosed Before Parts Are Replaced

Where the louvre system is motorised, the fault isn't always the motor. Actuators, wiring, limit settings, control boards and remotes all fail in ways that look identical from the outside — and on older systems, throwing parts at it gets expensive fast.

We diagnose the full drive system first. Where a motor or actuator has genuinely failed and the original is no longer supported, we fit compatible current units — across Somfy, Elero, Becker, Alpha, Nice, Linak and equivalents.

Many of these systems are older or no longer supported by their original supplier, which is exactly why diagnosis-before-replacement matters more here than anywhere else we work.

How it works

How We Handle a Louvre Shutter Repair

1

Identify the system

From your photos and description — and the supplier name if you know it — we work out how the system is built and what hardware it uses, before we're on site.

2

Diagnose on site

We check the blades, pivots, linkages, operating hardware and — on motorised systems — the full drive and control side. On older systems we confirm what parts are still obtainable before quoting.

3

Repair, adapt or advise honestly

Where original parts exist, we fit them. Where they don't, we adapt current hardware or have components fabricated where practical. And if the panel is beyond sensible repair, we say so — before you spend anything.

Louvre Knowledge From the Manufacturing Side

Aluminium louvre systems are a niche inside a niche — most repairers have never had one apart. We have, from the manufacturing side.

Bill, who runs the work on the ground, spent years in manufacturing and project management at a leading Sydney louvre manufacturer before founding Shutters of Sydney. That means the pivots, linkages, rollers and drive systems on these panels aren't a mystery to reverse-engineer on your balcony — they're hardware we've assembled, specified and installed for years.

The same knowledge runs across the rest of what we service: roller shutters, external venetian blinds, zip and outdoor blinds, folding arm awnings, and louvre and operable roofs — with motor and control experience across Somfy, Linak, Elero, CW Products, Alpha, Becker, Simu, Nice, JBA, Merlin and others.

Common questions

FAQ

Yes — this is one of the most common situations we're called for. Several Sydney louvre suppliers and manufacturers have stopped trading over the years, leaving systems with no one to service them. We identify how the system was built, what has failed, and what can be repaired, adapted or replaced — regardless of who originally supplied it.
Often, but not always as original parts. Where original components are no longer available, we source compatible equivalents, adapt current hardware, or have components fabricated where that's practical. We tell you what's possible — and what it involves — before you commit to anything.
Yes. We work on horizontal and vertically aligned aluminium louvre systems — sliding panels, hinged shutters, fixed screens and adjustable-blade systems — across balconies, facades, courtyards, pool areas and plant screening.
Usually a fault in the linkage — a broken or loose link bar, a worn control rod connection, or individual blade pivots that have seized while others still move. It can also be a bent blade binding against the frame. We diagnose which it is before replacing anything, because the fix is very different in each case.
Yes. Where the louvre system is motorised, we diagnose and repair motor, actuator, wiring and control faults, and replace failed drives with compatible units where the original is no longer supported. We work across major motor brands including Somfy, Elero, Becker, Alpha, Nice and Linak.
In most cases, yes. Dropped panels usually come back to worn hinges, failed rollers or fixings that have let go — all replaceable. Blades rubbing the frame point to alignment or a bent blade, which can often be corrected or replaced individually rather than replacing the whole panel.
Yes. Locks, latches, drop bolts and keeper plates on privacy panels wear, corrode and drift out of alignment over time. We repair or replace the hardware and re-align the panel so it secures properly — important where the louvres are doing security or pool-area duty, not just privacy.
