Roller shutter pelmet open during motorisation work — Shutters of Sydney
Conversions — shutters, blinds & awnings

Manual to Motorised Conversions Sydney

Keep the shutter, lose the winding. We convert manual roller shutters, outdoor blinds and crank awnings to motorised operation — usually for far less than a new system, because your existing curtain and guides stay right where they are.

How conversions work

A Conversion Is a Drive Swap, Not a New System

Inside the pelmet, a manual shutter and a motorised one are mostly the same hardware — the difference is what turns the axle. A conversion replaces the winder or strap drive with a tubular motor sized to your curtain, adds a remote or wall switch, and leaves everything you can see untouched.

That's why converting usually costs a fraction of replacing: the curtain, guides and pelmet — most of a new shutter's price — are already on your wall and usually in good order. We confirm the curtain and axle are sound before quoting, because motorising a worn-out shutter helps nobody.

Same logic applies to crank-operated folding arm awnings and manual outdoor blinds: the fabric and frame stay, the drive changes, the winding stops.

What we handle

What We Convert

Strap and winder shutters to remote control

The classic conversion — tubular motor in the existing axle, remote or wall switch, strap hole tidied up. One shutter or the whole house.

Crank awnings to motorised

Wind-up folding arm awnings converted to motor drive — with a wind sensor added where exposure warrants it, so the awning protects itself.

Manual outdoor blinds to motorised

Spring and crank-operated outdoor blinds converted to tubular motor operation — a big difference on large or high blinds that were heavy work by hand.

Battery and hard-wired options

Hard-wired where power is accessible, rechargeable battery motors where it isn't — no electrician needed for battery conversions.

Common questions

FAQ

Usually much cheaper, because the expensive parts — curtain, guides, pelmet — are already installed and stay. You're paying for the motor, controls and fitting. We confirm the existing hardware is sound first; if the curtain is at end of life we'll say so rather than motorise a shutter that's about to fail.
Not always. Rechargeable battery motors avoid wiring entirely and suit most residential shutters and blinds. Hard-wired motors need power at the pelmet — where a licensed electrician is required for the wiring, we coordinate that as part of the job.
One is fine. Plenty of clients convert the biggest or most-used shutter first and do the rest over time — the systems are independent, and remotes can be added to control multiple shutters as you go.
Somfy, Alpha, Becker, Elero, Nice and equivalents — matched to the curtain size and how the shutter gets used, not whatever's cheapest on the shelf. All with local warranty support.
